In 1922 when British archaeologists discovered the tomb of king Tutankhamun, they found inside intact linen dating as far back as 3500 years. Egyptians use linen to help repel microorganisms. It’s believed that ancient Egyptians sometimes used linen as currency. Linen is made from the fibres of the flax plant and is known for its strength and longevity. The world’s strongest natural fibre is used even today in paper money to increase strength. It lasts for hundred of years because of the variable length of the fibre. As linen ages, becomes softer and more flexible, less likely to crease and easier to handle.
Our linen comes from Northwest France and West Belgium. This area is famous for producing the best raw linen in the world, due to the perfect ratio of minerals, water, sun and humidity. Like wine, the origin determines the character. Flax is an eco-friendly and innovative crop. Linen is robust yet sensitive, can be rustic but also sophisticated and it is used for fashion and interiors.
Linen is our company’s ambassador, is the fabric that represents us the most, our aesthetic and our values. Linen has been part of the Castellini family history for generations. C&C Milano started working with flax from early beginnings; went from producing the prominent deckchairs seen along the Mediterranean coast and Venice Lido, to creating countless sophisticated collections of linen dedicated to both residential and commercial markets.
C&C Milano has the most versatile fabric collection. Our textiles come in standard width (130cm - 160cm) as well as double width (280cm – 310cm). Our commitment to sustainability and desire to achieve absolute luxury products using only natural fibres can bee seen in our fabric selection. More than 90% of our textiles are natural and almost half of them is linen. Linen is one of the most biodegradable fabric in history. Every part of the flax plant is used to create a worthwhile product, nothing goes to waist.
Linen fibres are an exceptional insulator, used for their ability to keep cool in the summer months and trap warmth in the winter. We make linen blankets and throws to retain heat and warmth from our body. Our clients love them because it reacts to the season.
C&C Milano presents a wide range of linens used for several purposes:
C&C Milano prefers linen when making bespoke finished product. We use it for our handmade bedding and bath linen due to its natural ability to prevent bacterial growth. Towel fabric is very important, especially hand towels and bath towels as they tend to be perfect homes for microbes.
We truly enjoy working with this extraordinary fabric and we encourage all our clients to try it, to experiment sleeping in bedding made out of linen. Once you experienced it you will never go back to the usual materials.
