Cashmere is a refined fibre obtained from small goats raised in Asia; the best cashmere comes from Iran, Mongolia, Tibet and Afghanistan. The name originates from the historical region of Kashmir, situated between India, Pakistan and China. Cashmere is smooth, silky and velvety, giving a warm and fluffy feeling on the skin. This luxury fibre is obtained by combing the soft undercoat of the goat by hand during the moulting season in the springtime; the annual estimated production per animal is only around 150 grams. Silk is a protein fibre made from the chrysalis of silkworms. The strongest animal fibre is also the most refined and shimmering. The silk thread filament is obtained by unwinding the cocoons of the worms Bombyx mori in hot water and then spinning 4 to 8 filaments (long up to 1 km) together into a single thread. Silk is lightweight, takes dye very well and retains its shape. The characteristic shimmer is due to its triangular molecular structure that acts like a prism and refracts light.
